My favorite new comedy show.

Brett and Germaine are just two guys from New Zealand trying to make it in the world of popular music. They have a Manager who manages them during his breaks at the Tourist Bureau of New Zealand. They have a run-down apartment in a bad part of New York. They have one fan, but she’s obsessed with them. The write write very catchy songs and perform them in music videos made up in their own minds. Brett has awesome falsetto. They are Flight of the Conchords, on HBO, or the usual torrent sites. Here is one of my favorite songs by them, “What You’re Into”.  They are easily the second or third best novelty folk duo from New Zealand, hands down.

As a busy working Dad with two kids and and wife who I’m still married to and the PTA and kitchen remodeling blah blah blah I guess it goes without saying that I don’t get a lot of spare time to relax and watch TV like the rest of America, and when I do watch it it’s on Tivo and usually short, funny shows that I can stop in the middle when the kids who are supposed to be asleep march downstaurs at 10:30 for a hug and cookie.    One of the funniest shows I’ve seen in a long time (and one of the few shows that I like that aren’t immediately cancelled because only guys like me watch them–this one just got renewed for  a second season) is the comedy skit show HUMAN GIANT on MTV2.

It’s surprising and quite impressive to see a comedy show with just three guys who perform such a wide variety of material.  I’m thrilled to see Rob Huebel (known to fans of the Cinemark Theater chain as “Inconsiderate Cell Phone Guy”), and Aziz Ansari is just awesomely funny.  And Paul Scheer is the best gapped-tooth comic since Terry Thomas.  They have generated a lot of media attention for their hysterical sketch “‘Lil’ 9/11″, which replays the events of 9/11 with child actors.  Check out this clip from their web site, and set your Tivo for MTV2 on Thursday nights at 10:30 PM.  They will blow your mind apart!
